So after all my glowing reports regarding the cloth diaper scene and BumGenius in particular, about a month ago my diapers started dying. Asher had crib-clearing leaks several days in a row and I finally realized it was because the elastic around the legs was stretched beyond repair. Once I looked at my diapers, several had lost elasticity and it seemed that with every wash, more and more would be ruined. Within a few weeks, 14 out of the 21 diapers I originally had with Asher could no longer be used without dire and disgusting consequences.
So, I reached out to cottonbabies.com with my disappointment. They were very helpful and offered to replace all the diapers that were ruined. Apparently I had been using some "unapproved" detergents, but back when I bought the diapers, they didn't really know which ones could be problematic so they're sending me 14 brand-new diapers. Since I sent these in, two more have gone to the happy-hunting ground, but I'm still working with 5 diapers right now that seem to be holding up (I think because I received them as gifts a few months after some of the originals, so I expect they won't hold out much longer either). And my new diapers are on their way along with the new list of detergents I'm supposed to use, none of which I have heard of. I'm sure I can find one or two at the whole food store in town. I'll keep you posted on whether or not these new ones make it more than a year (especially with two kids in diapers!).

Is this Deiter from Bozeman? How the heck are you? I was looking at the church website and saw your name on there. Drop me a line and let me know what you are up to - smaehl@hotmail.com. I am living in Billings at the moment but we may be moving to Florida soon. Anyhow, hope to hear from you.
Lise, here's the link to the approved detergents. Lots of random items:
