So, I spent almost two hours getting Asher's 6 month pictures taken today at Sears. Silly me was thinking that it wouldn't be busy after the holidays and I could get in and out quickly. I neglected to take into account that because they weren't busy, the photographer would have hours on hand to hard-sell me endless "enhancements" while Asher went into a downward spiral of meltdown. All you moms out there know what I'm talking about.
Does anyone know these poor souls' story? Do they get commission? I try to be nice to the individuals, but I had to almost yell at her today to get her to finish up (why on earth would I want to pay an extra $25 for a cloudy border--seriously!). I'm not very good at combating their techniques. Obviously all the pictures are cute--it's my kid, but I can't wallpaper my house with photos. Buying some huge package for $250 does not technically "save" me $200.
I've had so many different experiences at these places. I've been to JCPenney several times with varying success. They're usually OVERLY busy, but less expensive and usually leave you alone with the computer to order. Sears seems to have consistently better quality photos but are more expensive and, as I had forgotten before today, very pushy.
Anyone have tips for these places? I suppose I don't have as many choices here in Missoula. Needless to say, the pictures turned out great and you can see them here. You have to log in with rachjanedietz@hotmail.com and the password is asherphotos. Check out the playboy pose--the photog would not give up on that one, even though I told her I didn't like it. Please resist the temptation to purchase sheets at $25 a pop.

I couldn't get in to see those pictures.
I have really liked using picture people. Especially with all the coupons, and the free sitting deal, they have now (it used to be $10/person). Their best deal of the year is going on right now-- the coupon for the 8 valentines, sheet of wallets, and a free 8 x 10 or 10x 13 for $12. I am taking Ellie on Sunday for her 6 yr old pic.
Sorry about the problem viewing the pictures--I put my username and password on the blog now for those of you who would like to check out the pictures.
I checked on the Picture People website and none in MT, unfortunately, but good luck with Ellie's 6 year pictures--can't believe she's that old.
Rarrr! I can't wait for you to share those leopard shots with Asher's future girlfriends! Very cute pix of your handsome young man.
I've given up on the photo places, at least for now. Like you, I've never been tempted by the fuzzy blue backgrounds or optional alphabet borders. I've decided instead to contact photography students at local schools who have portfolios & their own equipment, who can come to the house/beach/park or wherever we want to take family photos in relaxed setting for the kids. I've heard good reports from some friends who have already tried this, we'll see.
we made the mistake of going to Target, although it was for a photos of the nieces and nephews on my side for my parents as a christmas gift. i had a feeling it might be a bad idea to use Target. well it WAS!the appt was an hour behind, the photographer seemed sort of incompetent, and to top it all off, they ended up DELETING the photo. That's right, at pickup time just before christmas, we were told the photo just did NOT EXIST ANYMORE. Can you believe it???? My siblings and I were "royally ticked".
I loved the photos... Asher has developed a look all his own. I was able to log in with the info, thanks.
I've given up on studios because of all the hassle. In the age of digital cameras I just take my own. I have a huge white sheet that I drape over the furniture and we have a "dress up" day at home. The kids love to use my camera, so we have an agreement that once I'm done they can tell ME where to sit and how to sit and can take photos of me, their animals and whatever dress up they want me to wear. It makes for a fun time and then you have TONS of photos of their stuffed animals when it's all said and done and just enough good shots of them to order prints for family. No copyrite problems either for that one totally cute photo that you are tempted to spend $25 on just because you don't want it forever lost!
